Actuary

National Teachers Associates Life Insurance Company (NTA Life) is a growing insurance company in the North Dallas (Addison) area that specializes in providing supplemental health insurance primarily to teachers and public sector employees.  We are currently looking for an Actuary with ambition and a positive attitude to join our in-house actuarial team.  This position will be responsible for writing computer programs for special studies in Access, Excel, and Visual Basic and running and modifying existing programs such as asset shares, reserve factor development, loss ratio studies, lapse rate studies and company projections.  Responsible for performing studies for rate increases and implementing them, completing rate filings and Annual Rate Certifications for state insurance departments.  Running studies on mainframe computer and processing it into useable data.  Assist in the development, setting assumptions, and pricing of new products.  Develop and maintain reserves for all lines of business, develop actuarial memorandum for filing new products and other actuarial duties.

  • Associate of Society of Actuaries
  • Member of American Academy of Actuaries
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
  • At least three years of relevant actuarial experience
  • Strong mathematical reasoning
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Highly organized
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to be flexible, multitask, and shift priorities on a continuing basis while meeting
    deadlines
  • Work both independently and within a team environment
  • Proficiency in the operations of PC-based systems, including Microsoft Office software
  • Five or more years of relevant actuarial experience
  • Knowledge of health or life insurance industry, at least the first Loma examination
  • Experience working with state departments of insurance, including New York filings
  • Evidence of a strong ability to understand laws, statutes, and regulations
  • Knowledge of state valuations and filing requirements
  • Project management or training experience
